Press Release from PNCC
Public are advised that logging trucks will be operating on Scotts Road this Sunday 27 February 2011.
Scotts Road will be signposted and manned to minimise the risks to all road users. Logging trucks will travel up and down the entire length of Scotts Road.
Members of the public who wish to access the Te Araroa Trail from Scotts Road should consider postponing their visit. This applies to all recreational users and also to permitted hunters who wish to travel through Gordon Kear Forest.
Normal weekend traffic flow will resume on Saturday 5 March 2011.
By way of background, this situation has arisen due to an increase in demand for export logs and an associated increase in harvest throughout the lower North Island which has created problems of lack of availability of trucks and congested port handling facilities at the Port of Wellington. The Port will be opening on Sunday to assist in clearing the transport backlog. This means there will be log transport occurring on Scotts Road on Sunday 27 February.
A security guard will be stationed on Scotts Road at the base of the hill section to ensure that anyone on the road is aware of log transport operations.
