The Manawatu Mountain Bike Club has constructed and maintains over 30km of trails in the region. This is a big commitment from a volunteer organisation. The 12km of new trail built at Arapuke between 2011 and 2014 took 1200hrs of volunteer labour. Even at Raumai, where trails happen fast in the easy sand country, hundreds of volunteer hours goes into building and grooming trails.
MMBC have the tools and expertise to build fun, flowy, sustainable trails that require the minimum of maintenance, but we need volunteers to help us. Regular working bees are advertised in the Calendar and on Facebook
Arapuke Forest Park is the major project in the region. With the support of PNCC, we plan to expand the network of trails at Arapuke through to 2020. PNCC have committed $20,000 per annum for 6 years to assist us in building top quality trails, but we will need further funding and volunteer support to complete this project. More info ...
The other major focus is to build on the start made with Te Ara o Mahurangi trail at the Manawatu Gorge and work towards a trail through the Manawatu Gorge. Our visions is that can be part of a 130km Tararua Loop to connect to Arapuke and back to Palmerston North. Check out the presentation below to see the big picture.
